The article examines current trends in the development of system software (SSW), shaped by technological changes, growing security requirements, increased scale of computing, and expanded areas of application. A literature review was conducted to identify key directions such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI), microservice-based architectures, DevSecOps, cloud-native approaches, edge computing, low-code and no-code platforms, as well as ethical and environmental considerations. The paper discusses the challenges and prospects of these trends and offers recommendations for the future development of SSW.
