Abstract

Second language acquisition (SLA) is an impactful experience that yields significant neuroplastic changes within the brain. These changes are influenced by various factors, which create a need for a holistic, experience-based approach to language teaching. Key factors that modulate neuroplasticity are: the age of acquisition (AoA), proficiency level, intensity and diversity of language use or exposure, learning context and methodology, individual differences and aptitude, and first language (L1)-second language (L2) typological distance.
